It is nearing fall, and I'm ready for the cooler weather and sweaters. The seasons change has got me thinking about growing out my do.

Nerding out on some old costume history

I'm not taking any summer classes but today felt like brushing up on my costume history material. The past brings me a lot of inspiration. Specifically, ancient greece hairstyles are beautiful and intricate.

Also, this painting from the middle ages circa 1388, reminds me I some current trends with color blocking.

Inspirational photos

There is a test coming up for my fashion history class this week. While studying for this exam, I discovered many inspirational photos of designers and models. Our class has been studying the late 40's, 50's, and 60's and focusing on American and European fashion.  Feel free to leave a comment and say which gowns were your favorite.

Norman Norell takes the iconic 60's flower power movement and translates it into an elegant jacket covered in three colors of silk flowers.

Norman Norell was known for this silhouette as well as his high quality garments.

Model Jean Patchett, Spain 1953. These sunglasses caught my attention. They are ahead of their time.

Balenciaga's Paletot jacket 1950.

Charles James,  referred to as  the "Leonardo Di Vinci of Fashion" created this  ball gown for the Eisenhower inaugural ball 1953. Worn by Mrs. William Randall Hurst. The skirt has carefully shaped hoops to create the cloverleaf shape.

First lady Nancy Reagan took a beating for "borrowing" designer fashions such as her James Galanos inaugural gown (price tag: an estimated $10,000). Reagan gets extra style points for wearing the one-shoulder lace and silk satin beaded sheath and becoming the only first lady in the past three decades to bare a shoulder at the inaugural ball.

Boho style

Here is a collection of some hippy like style from some awesome people. They bring out the inner boho in me. With the patterns and loose layers, one can be inspired by ethnicities from all over the world.
