Inspirational photos
There is a test coming up for my fashion history class this week. While studying for this exam, I discovered many inspirational photos of designers and models. Our class has been studying the late 40's, 50's, and 60's and focusing on American and European fashion. Feel free to leave a comment and say which gowns were your favorite. |
Teddy boys, Britain 1948. Characterized wearing two toned jackets, drain pipe trousers, greased hair and wore the shoes called "brothel creepers."![]() |

Norman Norell takes the iconic 60's flower power movement and translates it into an elegant jacket covered in three colors of silk flowers. |
Norman Norell was known for this silhouette as well as his high quality garments. |
Model Jean Patchett, elegant gown. 1951 |
Suzy Parker, photographed by Milton H. Greene in the mermaid gown by Norman Norell in 1952 |
Model Jean Patchett, Spain 1953. These sunglasses caught my attention. They are ahead of their time. |

Charles James, referred to as the "Leonardo Di Vinci of Fashion" created this ball gown for the Eisenhower inaugural ball 1953. Worn by Mrs. William Randall Hurst. The skirt has carefully shaped hoops to create the cloverleaf shape. |
Nancy Reagan is wearing a dress by the american designer, James Galano. Mrs. Reagan was the first to bare a shoulder for this ball, and she did it elegantly. 1981 |
